Martin studied botany at the University of Swansea and has a PhD in plant ecology from the University of Exeter. A contributor to the National Vegetation Classification, he has eleven years of ecological experience. Martin is a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. He specialises in botanical surveys but also holds great crested newt and barn owl licences from Natural England and Natural Resources Wales.
After working as a botanist on the 2007 Countryside Survey, Martin joined AMEC Earth and Environmental as an ecological consultant. In 2010 he was appointed as a Senior Ecologist and then Business Manager with David Clements Ecology Ltd. in Penarth. He moved back to Cheshire in 2012 when he was appointed as a Principal Ecologist with Wardell Armstrong LLP.
